Let me know if you find this is NOT the case on your computer because there may be something on my computer causing it. You should find the CCC backup uses about the same memory as booting from the HD but the SD backup uses much more. Use Activity Monitor to examine memory usage on the HD. Super Duper seems a bit out of date main reason being we don't want to spend the time it's going to take to exclude files or folders from backups - (pgs 20-25 of the manual.) We are after a quick method where we can easily select the folders vs writing lots of scripts for multiple backs that. If you want to test this for yourself create bootable backups with SD and CCC. Carbon Copy Cloner is very similar to Silverkeeper. The only reason I ran into a problem now is I had to do a complete restore and I have one program that tickles this bug. In the past I was just fishing old files and programs from backups. Apparently, whatever SD did during the backup was corrected by CCC during the restore. I downloaded a trial of CCC, restored from that and everything was as it should be. There is absolutely no reason I can think of for this to happen. I then booted from several of the backups I had made with SD and found the same problem. One program I use extensively would not run, although as far as I could tell everything else did. After restoration pretty much everything running on the computer was using 50-100% plus more memory. The only reason I discovered it was I inadvertently updated to the latest release of El Capitan, ran into a problem and had to restore the whole system from a backup. The drive will now be partitioned, formatted, and ready for use.Sorry to bring this up but SD has a problem which should almost never show up.

Verify that the selected format defaults to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).On the menu settings, verify that the partition is set to GUID Partition Table. You can do this before you install the SSD in your system by connecting it to your computer with a cloning cable, then follow these steps (applicable to MacOS El Capitan or newer (version 10.11 or higher)). Note, before installing your SSD, it must be initialised, partitioned, and formatted.

This guide is just about cloning the data only. CCC because I have found it clearer to use, more polished and quicker to adapt to the system upgrades (actually switched from one to other). In that case we recommend trying Carbon Copy Cloner, which has worked for a new number of clients where Super Duper would not. On very few occasions, we find that customers have some issue with cloning with Super Duper.
It uses the free version of Super Duper to do the cloning. The below video shows how to clone the data from your old hard drive or SSD to a new 2.5-inch SSD, and applies to just about all Mac's running MacOS Snow Leopard or later.
